The upcoming new season of "Doctor Who" would be bidding farewell to the Time Lord's assistant as actress Jenna Coleman reveals that she was able to film her last episode as Clara Oswald.

According to Mirror UK, Coleman revealed that she would be leaving the series after appearing in nearly 40 episodes of the BBC1 TV series.

"You're in Doctor Who knowing it will never last. It's constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you're here," the 29-year-old English actress explained to the Radio Times.

Mirror UK reported that Coleman had already filmed her final scenes in the show which would be aired before the "Doctor Who" Christmas special.

As you may have already guessed, Coleman would not be leaving the hit show without any valid reason.

In fact, the reason why the young actress decided to let this one go is because she was offered a much bigger role as the young "Queen Victoria" during the early days of her 63-year reign that started during the 1800s.

According to a source cited by the British outlet, the actress was not very enthusiastic at the idea of being a queen even in TV in the beginning.

"Jenna clinched the role of Victoria a while ago but it's been a very closely guarded secret. There is a lot of excitement about this series, which has Sunday night written all over it," the source explained, referring to the TV show adaptation of the royalty's life entitled "Victoria" to be aired in ITV.

The outlet's source also revealed that the network hopes to create an expensive eight-part epic show that could yield the same ratings as that of "Downtown Abbey."

The series would be written by novelist Daisy Goodwin who described the queen's diaries as "an astonishingly vivid picture of her transformation from a rebellious teenager."

Meanwhile, Peter Capaldi expressed his high hopes for Coleman in her new venture and even recalled how the actress had progress.

"I was so lucky it was Jenna because it might not have worked with anyone else. It's tricky to come into a long-established show, especially as the lead and Jenna has proved to be a wonderful actress and friend," he told the Radio Times.

The first episode of the season 9 of "Doctor Who" is set to air on September 19 under the careful direction of Steven Moffat.
