Apple iPad Rival Selling for Only $50? Check Out This New 6-Inch Holiday Tablet

American electronic commerce company Amazon has expressed great plans to release a tablet worth $50 for the Christmas holidays. The device is expected to compete with Apple's upcoming iPad release.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the tablet will sport a 6-inch screen for a very affordable price which is almost "half the price of the company's current Fire HD 6-inch tablet."

This is expected to attract more buyers since it will come really cheap, but the same report expressed concern that its price tag could sacrifice the quality of the device especially its screen quality, durability and battery life.

As a teaser, sources told Wall Street Journal said that the tablet will sport a mono speaker instead of a stereo one.

"The $50 device is part of a slate Amazon is planning to release this year that will also include tablets with 8-inch and 10-inch screens, according to the people familiar," added the same report.

The Verge said people had bad experiences with cheap tablets "with lots of garbage."

"But Amazon has actually made some decent inexpensive devices," it added noting that the company could be devising ways to make this cheap price possible like an addition of lock screen ads.

The same report said that the Fire HD tablet is considered one of the cheapest in the market.

In a related report, Daily Mail noted that the release of the device from Amazon could coincide with Apple's plan to make available a 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Similarly, ZDNet said Amazon could face some tough competition with Apple as it tries to improve its tablet sales after the advent of phablets which affected iPad sales.

"Then again, Amazon is likely looking to reach buyers that don't own such a phone and see tablets as a luxury item," added ZDNet.

Meanwhile, MarketWatch said Amazon is continuously coming up with plans on how they can compete with giant developers of similar devices. One of this is "preferring to make money by selling services that work with the devices, like e-books and video rentals," as per Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

He explained that the low prices of their devices were indeed intended to lure those who are budget-conscious but want to find a perfect tablet that suits the price they can afford.

However, Business Day Live said that there are also people who expressed hesitations on the upcoming tablet release.

"Will people tolerate a potentially inferior experience just because a tablet is $50? Amazon has to be very careful about what they're giving up to get to that low price point," research analyst Frank Gillett told Business Day Live.
