Romeo Santos comes along seductively whenever he performs onstage, but the bachata singer insisted that it was only for show.

In an interview published in Cosmo for Latina's August issue, Santos talked about his life goals, the bachata music genre, and his personality in performing.

"I perform as if I were the guy I wanted to be in high school, when I felt too skinny and unattractive to talk to girls. I can do my thing and be the 'seductor' that women love, but I leave that persona on stage," the recording artist said, as quoted by Cosmopolitan.

Santos, 34, has Puerto Rican and Dominican roots and was raised in the Bronx. According to the singer, he grew up listening to salsa music, adding that bachata "wasn't cool" and had "a bad reputation," the news outlet noted.

Santos was referred to as the king of bachata, a genre that originated from the Dominican Republic and is known for its raw sensuality and romantic quality. In April, Santos bagged the most awards -- a total of 10 -- at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

The honors he received at the awards ceremony are artist of the year, songwriter of the year, producer of the year, Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, Top Latin Album, and tropical album of the year for his 2014 record, "Formula, Vol. 2," Billboard listed.

The "Eres Mia" singer also told Cosmopolitan about how he fulfilled his lifelong dream of giving his mother a house, which he accomplished after receiving his first big check.

"I was so sure she was going to cry I brought tissues. But when we got there I broke down. We both cried for like four minutes," Santos told the magazine.

He also has no problems with dating women who have strong personalities, adding that he doesn't have a particular type when it comes to the opposite sex. Different colors, shapes, and nationalities are not an issue with the artist, the magazine added.

"Personality is very important -- a good sense of humor," Santos shared, as quoted by Cosmopolitan. "I'm not machista. I don't think men should always control and rule or be the leaders. I like a woman who's not afraid to lead."

When it comes to his social media presence, the former lead singer of Aventura revealed the reason why he doesn't post on his Twitter page that much. For the musician, mysteriousness is still important.

"I don't tweet very much. I still believe in the mystery of an artist. A lot of artists are out there every day, but I remember Julio Iglesias, and José José -- and they were about the music," he explained, as quoted by Cosmopolitan.
