With the recent launch of Microsoft Windows 10, will the public bid goodbye to Lumia to say hello to the Surface Pro?

Windows Central reported that work for their upcoming operating system release is almost complete.

"The phone is significantly feature complete, but we'll continue to polish and tweak and iterate the things that still need to work. We'll put features in right up near the end. But in general, the broad feature set is set," Microsoft's Joe Belfiore told The Verge.

He added that the company will also have "at least one and two premium Windows 10 Mobile smartphones released in 2015."

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Windows and Devices head Terry Myerson said that Microsoft could also offer a handset with the Surface brand.

"We are going to focus on a few great devices and the most notable being that premium consumer category. The direction we will head is the premium-branded lineup," Myerson added.

He explained that their aim is to have "one Microsoft device family that plays this role in the Windows ecosystem."

WinBeta added that Myerson could be referring to the Surface line when mentioned about the device family.

It was also reported that the Surface brand has been attached to two tablet types and the Surface Hub.

"A natural progression would be to have it attahed to phones as well. It seems even more likely due to the fact that the man in charge of Surface, Panos Panay, is now in charge of 'premium Microsoft devices,'" WinBeta added.

WMPowerUser said that the handset is expected to be made of metal and will run on Intel's 64bit X3 Sofia.

Because of its upgraded specifications, the Microsoft phone will reportedly cost more than an iPhone since it will also run on Windows 10 and not simply on Windows 10 Mobile.

The hype on the new Windows device has obviously kept Microsft mum on the release of the next Lumia release, believed to be the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL.

"The fact that these phones were expected to be the 'flagship' phones from Microsoft, and to the extent that some people had even been calling it 'iPhone Slayer', it is a shame that the talk of the town is that this phone might never actually be released," The Rem said.

These Lumia phones are said to be one of the most anticipated releases in the mobile market for the year which will come in 2GB and 4GB RAM variants.
