Leonardo DiCaprio may be a big star, but he's an even bigger planeteer.

"The Revenant" star is known for his philanthropy and in his second annual charity gala in Saint Tropez, the glitzy shindig drew a lot of faces - with a lot of cash.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the actor was able to raise over $40 million to help protect the earth, a big jump from last year's event, which raised only $25 million.

In his opening remarks, DiCaprio said, "Tonight's event is about supporting [the foundation's] efforts to protect key species like the tiger, rhino, shark and mountain gorilla by working with governments to conserve the jungles, coral reefs and forests they call home. By focusing on protecting these critically-endangered iconic species is almost like setting up a worldwide network of Noah's arks."

He went on, "We've decimated our forests, wildlands, polluted and over-fished our rivers and oceans; all the key ecosystems that not only serve as a home to our planet's biodiversity, but also make life here for us possible."

The event was peppered with stars, US Weekly noting that among those in attendance are Kate Hudson, Orlando Bloom, and Sylvester Stallone.

Some royals even came for the gala, including Prince Albert II of Monaco and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

Harper's Bazaar also reported the attendance a lot of models, including Naomi Campbell, Natasha Poly, Jessica Stam, and DiCaprio's latest girlfriend, Kelly Rohrbach.

Before you roll your eyes at his efforts, the actor also tapped his own treasures, offering a Rolex Daytona Cosmograph watch, and Andy Warhol, and Banksy artwork in the auction. His items alone raised nearly $2 million.

The event, which was sponsored by Chopard and Armani, also saw Elton John giving an impromptu concert. A private concert with the famed musician sold for $3 million.

Later, John posted a photo on Instagram with another talented singer, which he captioned, "Such an honor to share the stage with the incredibly talented John Legend, And a joy to raise money to help save our planet for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation."

Besides fine art and luxury items, experiences and property were also up for grabs. Ownership of an estate on DiCaprio's private island in Belize was sold to Tom Barrack for 11 million, and Prince Albert II donated experiences that included an arctic expedition.

A limited re-edition of "The Thinker" by Rodin, which was made from the original mold, also added almost $2 million to the treasure chest.
