The 22-year-old British singer Sam Smith, popular for his successful "Lay Me Down" and "Stay With Me" songs apologized to his fans who already bought tickets for his "In the Lonely Hour" tour in Australia, which was cancelled due to health reasons.

"I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour. I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal chords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue," Sam Smith wrote on his Instagram page.

Fans were ever supportive of the singer, leaving comments for him all over social media.

One of his followers, Instagram user alexandermsb, commented, "GET WELL SOON AND DON'T LET BUSINESS RUIN THE AMAZING TALENT YOU HAVE. YOU HAVE ALL YOUR LIFE TO DO CONCERTS BUT ONLY A COUPLE VOCAL CORDS. TAKE CARE SAM"

Billboard noted that his sold-out shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth have been withheld after his throat condition occurred. He was able to perform Saturday at Brisbane's Riverstage, and Monday night at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion, marking the start of his tour. Not only were the rest of his performances cancelled, he was also unable to appear at the annual Logie Awards due to his medical problem.

Moreover, he was also set to tour Asia (first stop, Tokyo) after his performances in Australia, but that, too, would have to wait.

On the other hand, Sam Smith may be able to see himself with Rihanna in the studio according to NME. This speculation started after Rihanna admitted her desire to work with him during an interview with The Sun.

"He is so talented, it would be amazing to work with him. No matter how busy we are, when two artists want to work together they make it happen," RiRi said. "He is such a beautiful songwriter, but more important than that, he is an absolutely beautiful person, and that comes across in his songs."

The collaboration, MTV noted, is set to be released as part of Rihanna's next album, R8.

What do you think of Sam's soulful style mixed with Rihanna's brand of R&B?

For now, let's just wish the British singer a good health, and hopefully, his rescheduled tour in December will go on as planned.
