Antonio Banderas' upcoming Chilean miner drama, "The 33," has recently unveiled a new international trailer, and it was haunting as the real life story it was based on.

"The 33," which was directed by Patricia Riggen, focuses on the 2010 Chilean miners' "devastating circumstances, displaying the earth falling upon them in the Copiapo, Chile caves," Deadline wrote. The ill-fated miners was buried deep underground for two months, awaiting rescue. Help from all over the world poured in, including assistance from a NASA team from the U.S. and an American driller.

Banderas portrays Mario Sepulveda, a miner "who becomes trapped on the last day before his retirement," Deadline noted. Aside from the 54-year-old actor, the film also stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Juliette Binoche, Gabriel Byrne, Kate del Castillo, and Rodrigo Santoro. Mike Medavoy, Edward McGurn, and Robert Katz serve as producers, while Mikko Alanne, Craig Borten, and Michael Thomas wrote the screenplay which was based on Hector Tobar's novel titled, "Deep Down Dark."

For those unacquainted with the August 5, 2010 tragedy that befell the Chilean miners, Indie Wire wrote that the cave-in happened at a San José copper mine. The workers, which were trapped 2,300 feet below the Earth and three miles from the entrance, were all miraculously alive after the ordeal.

"The 33" is slated for release in theaters in Chile on August 8, 2015, Indie Wire noted. The film was shot in Colombia and Chile's Atacama desert, The Wrap reported.

Antonio Banderas Celebrates Holy Week with GF Nicole Kimpel

Banderas recently went home to his Spanish hometown of Málaga on Thursday to enjoy the Holy Week celebrations, particularly the María Santísima de Lágrimas y Favores procession. Accompanying the actor was his 34-year-old girlfriend, Dutch investment consultant Nicole Kimpel, Daily Mail reported.

What was notable about the moment was the fact that Banderas and Kimpel watched the festivities unfold from the same balcony the movie star and his ex-wife, Melanie Griffith, also stood on when they were still together. Armed with a camera, Banderas was seen photographing stunning images from the parade while Kimpel hugs him from behind, Daily Mail described.

The couple was also spotted in Banderas' foundation gala held last Friday.

Banderas and Griffith announced news of their separation back in June after 18 years of marriage. In the statement issued by the pair, they said that they "thoughtfully" and "consensually" ended their marriage in a "loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together," Fox News Latino reported.
