CyanogenMod Installer Gets Pulled From Google Play for Encouraging Users to Void Warranties

Those looking for a quick and easy way to try out Android custom ROMS on their Android device will have to now look elsewhere. The CyanogenMod Installer app has been pulled from the Google Play store for violating its developers terms.

The retraction comes only three weeks after the app released on Google Play. The CyanogenMod team states that they voluntarily pulled the app from Google Play so that Google was not "forced to remove it administratively."

The reason for the recall? Apparently, even though the CyanogenMod Installer app is harmless in its own right, it "encourages users to void their warranty," something Google isn't interested in promoting.

For those not familiar, the CyanogenMod Installer app simplifies the process through which one can load custom Android firmwares onto an Android device. Instead of having to go through the ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which most people won't understand, the app takes care of everything for the user and can install any CyanogenMod onto the device with a few simple button presses.

Of course, custom flashing an Android device voids the warranty in many cases since the manufacturer does not want to be responsible for any complications that arise from third-party coding, which is the problem the CyanogenMod Installer app ran into.

The CyanogenMod team is offering an alternative. They are still offering the app for sideloading, and interested parties can head over to CyanogenMod.org and click on the "Get Started" link. The team also said that it is submitting the app to Amazon and Samsung app stores in hopes of providing the public with more download avenues.

Let us know if you've used the CyanogenMod Installer app and what your experience with it was like in the comments section below.
