The Ryan Reynolds starrer "Deadpool" now has its leading lady.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Homeland" star Morena Baccarin is set to appear in the 2016 film "Deadpool" alongside Reynolds. She was one of the actresses shortlisted for the role in the 20th Century Fox film based on the Marvel Comics. The other actresses eyed for the role were Taylor Schilling, Crystal Reed, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Sarah Greene, and Jessica De Rouw, Cinema Blend reported.

Before the official announcement regarding Baccarin's involvement in the movie, a casting call surfaced a few days ago describing the character's attributes.

As Cinema Blend reported: "Attractive and worldly. Smart, tough, beautiful but a little bit broken. Nothing has ever been easy for her and she's developed a thick skin and cynical outlook. But she's not a victim-she may not have a great life but she's holding it together and does what she needs to get by. She's got a great sense of humor but it leans heavily towards irony and sarcasm."

The news outlet explained that the Brazilian actress' character could either be the mercenary mutant Domino or the shapeshifter Copycat, who was a prostitute and Deadpool's girlfriend before he went under a medical experiment as Wade Wilson.

Baccarin currently has a recurring role as Dr. Leslie Thompkins on Fox's "Gotham." She is also set to appear alongside Melissa McCarthy in Paul Feig's upcoming action-comedy film "Spy," The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Aside from Reynolds and Baccarin, "Deadpool" will also star "Silicon Valley" actor T.J. Miller and Gina Carano as the adrenaline-controlling mutant Angel Dust. The project was based on a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Tim Miller in the director's chair. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Schuler Donner are producing, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

According to E! News, Reynolds first appearance as Deadpool was in the film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." On February 12, the actor gave fans a preview of his Deadpool costume via Twitter. He tweeted, "Sepia tone disguises the fact the mask is ballerina pink. It's early. 365 sleeps early. #deadpool #prototypes."

Speaking with Yahoo! Movies about the Marvel flick, Reynolds said that he was excited for "Deadpool" despite having low expectations of it being picked up again.

"We all completely assumed it was dead in the water," the actor told Yahoo! Movies. "Now, we get to make the movie. We don't get to make it with the budget of most superhero movies, but we get to make it the way we want to make it, so that's even more exciting than having a catered lunch."

Fans should have to wait for quite some time to get a sneak peek of "Deadpool." In the meantime, check out this fan-made trailer below.
