Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach wants to avenge Pacquiao's loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last year, but said that Floyd Mayweather Jr. should fight Pacquiao instead of Amir Khan.

In an interview with Edward Chaykovsky via Boxingscene, Roach said that Mayweather needs Pacquiao for pay-per-view reasons, pointing out that Khan, who is being considered as the next opponent of Mayweather, has no PPV audience.

"I would like the rematch [with Marquez], but Mayweather, he has a big contract with four fights left on it. And they can't fulfill that contract without fighting Manny Pacquiao. They are talking about Amir Khan, but he has no pay-per-view audience," Roach said.

The Hall of Fame trainer pointed out that ShowTime, who signed Mayweather to a lucrative six-fight contract, has no other choice but to convince Floyd to face Pacquiao in order to make money to pay the contract of the 36-year-old boxing superstar.

"To make the money to pay the contract [they need Pacquiao], that's why they had to go with Canelo so quick, because the first fight [with Robert Guerrero] lost so much money. I really hope that Bob [Arum] makes that fight happen for us. Obviously Golden Boy and Top Rank would have to do business with each other. It won't be the last time," Roach added.

The talks about the possible record-breaking showdown between Mayweather and Pacquiao intensified once again after the Filipino boxing icon scored a masterful unanimous decision win against Brandon Rios on Saturday in Macau.

Pacquiao, who was coming off two-straight defeats before Saturday's showdown with Rios, proved his doubters wrong, displaying his impressive footwork and blinding speed.

If the two boxing superstars will finally meet next year, Roach is confident that Pacquiao will overwhelm Mayweather with his speed, saying that the reigning WBC and WBA light middleweight showed signs of slowing down in his fight against Guerrero and Alvarez.

"Mayweather in his last two fights has been slow, he doesn't move as much as he used to. I think Manny's speed will overwhelm him. Mayweather is not good against southpaws. And he has trouble with speed," Roach said in an interview with Yahoo Sports. "Manny Pacquiao, he's back, but I never really had the thought he went anywhere."
