Selena Gomez has just released an emotional music video for her latest track "The Heart Wants What I Wants." The inspiration behind the song? It's no other than Gomez's on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber, according to reports.

The 22-year-old singer announced the debut of the music video on her Twitter account, saying "I have been waiting to share this with all of you. The video for my new single 'The Heart Wants What It Wants'."

Watch the music video below.

According to E! Online, in the first minute of the music video, Gomez can be heard saying, "When I was on stage and I was thinking of...I felt like I know...I know him, though, and I know his heart and I know what he wouldn't do to hurt me. But I didn't realize that feeling so confident and feeling so great about myself and then [to have] it just be completely shattered by one thing, by something so stupid. But then you make me feel crazy, you make me feel like it's my fault. I was in pain."

A roller coaster romance

Gomez opened up about her relationship with Bieber during her interview with "On Air With Ryan Seacrest." She explained that her emotional breakdown was recorded during the music video shoot, PEOPLE reported.

"They taped the mic underneath the table when I was shooting the video," Gomez told Seacrest, as quoted by PEOPLE. "And I had shot the video over a year ago. So, in that state - where I was in that place emotionally - I went in and I went into the room by myself, and I looked at the actual mirror in the music video, and I had a conversation [with] myself to every question I had in my mind in that moment."

Gomez reportedly ended her toxic relationship with the Canadian singer two years ago, according to PEOPLE. But the two just can't seem to get enough of each other because they are consistently re-igniting their romance. The duo started dating in 2011, LA Times noted.

"Everybody wants to form their own opinions anyway," Gomez said when asked about her controversial relationship with Bieber. "I think the biggest problem I had this year-even with [Bieber] and on his side-is identity. I was trying to figure out what I'm doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that," she added, as stated by another report from E! Online.

During the past year, the former Disney star has been at the center of various negative issues, including "her concert cancellations, a brief stint in rehab in January, some erratic behavior and rumored feuds with her high-profile friends," LA Times reports. The public also continues to criticize Gomez and her controversial affiliation with Bieber, whose behavior has been reckless and irrational recently.

"I was trying to figure out what I'm doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that. And people just thought, 'All right, this is what we think.' And yeah, I made some decisions that weren't great as well, and so did he, and that's why we went through all that to only make us better," Gomez said, LA Times reports.

Bieber, Gomez still together?

The singer/actress didn't confirm in the interview if she and Bieber are still seeing each other, but she said, as quoted by E! Online, "I support him. I think I always will. I'm upset when he's upset, I'm happy when he's happy. I don't want anything bad ever happen to him. It hurts me. That's all."

What was Bieber's reaction when he saw the music video? Gomez shared, "He thought it was beautiful. I think it was really hard. I think he was a little jealous of the video guy at first," LA Times reports.

Her good pal, Taylor Swift, watched the music video before it was released, and it seems like that the "Shake It Off" singer approved of it, LA Times added.

"She loved it. She's very dramatic and I love her so much," Gomez said. "So she came over to the house, and I played it. She had headphones in, and she watched the video, and then she just looked at me, then she looked back, and then played it three times over and over again. And I'm like, 'I want to know,' and she was like, 'Oh my God. This is amazing. I'm so excited for you.'"
