Fans of the adorable yellow cylindrical creatures introduced first on "Despicable Me" are in for a treat. The Minions are back! And the much-anticipated trailer of the beloved characters' full-length feature film is fun and exciting, as expected.

Released by production companies Illuminate Entertainment and Universal Studios, the "Despicable Me" spin-off "Minions" features the story of the gibberish banana-loving creatures and their adventures long before they met Gru, who was voiced by actor Steve Carell, CNN reports.

The Minions have gained a strong following ever since they were introduced to the big screen in 2010's "Despicable Me." The creatures' popularity among children and adults alike was so strong that they helped the first film earn $543,113,985 worldwide, International Business Times reports. That success was topped by the film's sequel, "Despicable Me 2," earning $970,761,885 worldwide, which was almost half as much as the first movie.

Plot details

The trailer is full of what the Minions' went through in their journey in the past. According to International Business Times, the creatures have been around for centuries (and it appears like they came from the sea). The Minions only have one purpose: to find and serve the most despicable master in existence. Unfortunately, as what the trailer noted, seeking an evil master is easy; it's what keeping one that is difficult.

In their quest to find a master, the Minions traveled throughout history. They served the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, Napoleon, and even Dracula, as noted by International Business Times. However, the species' simple-mindedness always cause the death of their masters, and this drives the Minions into pointlessness and depression.

However, International Business Times adds that the three protagonists of the film -- Kevin, Stuart, and Bob -- couldn't take this downward spiral of the Minions. With the purpose of leading the rest of their kind and finding a new evil master, the trio embark on a journey to New York circa 1968, 42 years before the events of the first "Despicable Me" films.
