New York Jets wide receiver, Eric Decker, just wanted to ask fans what they loved about the team, but, instead of soliciting some love, he got some pretty harsh messages from Twitter users.

"#jetsnation, tell me why you love the @nyjets using #jetsdiehardfan and I'll send a signed prize to my favorite," Decker posted on his Twitter page where he also earlier said that the Jets was not a "bad football team" but only one which "do stupid stuff."

Twitter user Sean Quintal answered saying "normally drinking heavily at 1pm on a Sunday would make me feel like an alcoholic. #jetsdiehardfan."

Matt Bolen, another Twitter user, said he loved the Jets because no matter how bad the team is, "it always seems to get worst."

While other users even made an acronym for the Jets, saying it means "Just End The Season."

CBS Sports wrote in a report that Decker is still optimistic despite their 1-7 record and the latest loss to the Buffalo Bills. The report also noted that it was a "nice gesture" for Decker to take off the minds of their fans into their devastating performance this season, but added that it was not able to get the expected response from the fans.

Not a stellar season

In an earlier interview with NJ.com, Decker said that he never expected a 1-7 start happening for his team.

"I've got to be honest with you. did not see us at this point, in the off-season. We have the pieces. We just aren't obviously performing on the field. Execution is the name of the game in this league. The talent level is so even throughout this league that you can't make mistakes. We've made too many mistakes," he added.

The player also said that for the team to do better, they must be able to work every day and make their performance better. Derek, who has missed Week 5 when he suffered a hamstring injury which he said made him really disappointed.

"It's not what I expected from myself. I've been fighting to get back to being as healthy as I can. I feel like I'm turning the corner to get there," he added.

Decker's wife reacts

While Decker was calm despite the turnout of his tweet, his wife, country music star Jessie James Decker, did not take the incident lightly. She tweeted a few responses on her Twitter page.

"You think he really cares what y'all think haters? He's laughing his ass alllll the way home.... Life is pretty good here. Can't complain," Jessie James said, noting that people can become overly dramatic sometimes.

"There's a difference between ripping 'haters' and fans. We love fans. Not haters...Not once did I say anything about the ripping fans We embrace the jets fans and couldn't be happier to be here! Things will look up!! The haters are another story.... Get it straight," her Tweet rants continued.
