Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Design: Video Hints at All-Metal Galaxy S6 [Watch]

While fans of Samsung's uber-successful Samsung Galaxy line of smartphones will have to wait a while before they'll be able to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S6, news and leaks regarding the upcoming device have already started to arrive. In a recent video posted online by AndroidMX, three upcoming Samsung devices are shown and they would seem to indicate that Samsung may finally moving toward an all-metal design for its smartphones. If true, this news would be welcome among the many who have for years been after Samsung to use premium materials in building its phones, like Apple does with its mobile devices.

Samsung has already released two flagship phones with metal frames around the edges of the devices in the Galaxy Alpha and the Galaxy Note 4. So this new video that shows off the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 is further proof that Samsung may be ditching the all-plastic approach from their handsets all together. And the A5 and A3 aren't considered top-tier phones either; they're mid-range devices. So for the next Galaxy S5, it would seem odd for Samsung to not include some metal in the design, if not an entirely metal design.

The video shows that the new devices don't have the round design aesthetic that Samsung has employed in recent years, gone also is the faux-metal or faux-chrome around the phones' edges. Instead, like the Galaxy Alpha, the phones have sharp, square edges that look a lot more like the iPhone 5's clean design, while still remaining unmistakably Samsung in their look.

The A5 and A3 aren't perfect, though, and sport some larger bezels than we'd care to see. This is most likely due to the fact that they are mid-range devices and therefore didn't receive the most high-end design or specs. Still, what's visible in this video is a welcome sign that Samsung is willing to change and adapt to what its customers have been calling for. We can only hope that this new design philosophy carries over to the Galaxy S6 when it debuts in the coming months.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to be announced around or at Mobile World Congress in February of next year, with a launch most likely coming in March or April of 2015. The phone is expected to have high-end specs all around, including a qHD or possibly 4K display, 20 megapixel camera, a Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM.
