Anderson Silva Next Fight & Leg Recovery News Update: MMA Fighter Seeing a Psychologist

By Nens Bolilan| Sep 10, 2014

Prior to his return to the ring, Anderson Silva is making sure that he is ready not only physically but also psychologically. He recently admitted that he has been seeing a psychologist to "get rid of the ghosts" of the past.

On Jan. 31, 2015, Silva is set to return to the ring and face Nick Diaz for the main event of the UFC 183 which is slated to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMA Mania said in a report that Silva now has the chance to prove to the whole MMA community and even to himself that he is far from retiring from the industry--even after the horrific incident. In December 2013, Silva broke his leg during the UFC 168 fight against Chris Weidman.

Fox Sports recalled that Silva was immediately sent to the hospital after he hit the canvas when Weidman checked the kick. The report added that a titanium rod was placed on his leg to connect the bone that broke. There was also positive news after the injury as doctors said that he will be able to fight again within the year.

But the MMA fighter's journey to recovery is not guaranteed to be easy. Aside from regaining his physical strength, MMA Mania said that Silva also has to improve himself mentally as the injury also disturbed his thinking. It added that seeing a psychologist is really necessary for a holistic recovery.

In an interview with Fox Sports, Silva said that professional medical help has enabled him to get rid of the "ghosts of those horrible moments of that fight."

"I'm a little apprehensive in training. I know I can execute the movement, but I end up not doing it for fear. I feel no pain at all. My strength is back because I'm back to training. The hardest part is self-confidence, to kick again as I used to," he added.

When asked about a match against Weidman, the former UFC champ said this is not yet in his list of priorities as he stressed that he is not interested in "being a champion."

"I'm over this thing of being champion, having the title. The truth is, there will only be one Ayrton Senna, there will only be one Pele, and there will only be one Anderson Silva, so whoever saw me (as champion), saw me. Who haven't seen me (as champion), won't see it. In a way you'll see me (fight again), but not for the belt, that thing of being champion again. I don't have patience for this. I think I'm closer to retirement every day," he explained to Fox Sports.

Silva is also focused on his upcoming match with Diaz which the former considers as a "super fight" since the latter is known to be a really dangerous MMA fighter.
