'Magic Mike 2' Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Director Says Sequel Film is 'On'

Channing Tatum and the rest of the sexy guys of "Magic Mike" could be back to film the movie sequel titled "Magic Mike XXL."

The original film's director, Steven Soderbergh, shared a photo on Twitter on Sunday - revealing the new movie's clapperboard. He left the directing job to Gregory Jacobs for the second movie but remains on board as film editor and director of photography.

His reason for leaving the director's chair is simply because he does not want to be the "frontman this time" around but still wants to be part of the movie project.

Jacobs, as the new director on board, is already familiar with the ins and outs of the movie since he worked as assistant director for the first film. The 34-year-old Channing Tatum revealed that Jacobs has worked as Soderbergh's assistant behind the camera for almost 25 movies.

Those who are excited for the sequel film will be in for a treat. Tatum recently shared with MTV that the sequel will be filled with lots of "ridiculous stuff" that the audience won't be able to witness in any other film.

Tatum's co-star Matt Bomer shared with Ellen Degeneres that "Magic Mike XXL" story involves a road trip of some sort which leads to a convention for strippers, wrote People Magazine.

According to NY Daily News, it isn't confirmed yet if the rest of the "Magic Mike" cast including Matthew McConaughey and Joe Manganiello, will reprise their roles.

Back in April, Tatum said he thinks everyone will be back and promises more traveling scenes in the movie sequel, reported Indie Wire.

"Magic Mike" was a surprise blockbuster hit when it was released in 2012. The success is what eventually led the makers to do a sequel - something which does not happen often with indie flicks, stated Cinema Blend.

"Magic Mike XXL" will hit the big screen on July 1, 2015. No trailer has been released yet as of now.
