Rajon Rondo Contract & Trade News: Point Guard 'Wants Out' of Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics point guard, Rajon Rondo, expressed his intention to leave his current team and become a free agent for the next NBA season.

This possible decision of Rondo, according to Fox Sports, should now push the Celtics to trade him or try "to resign him and risk him leaving for nothing."

An ESPN report noted that the team has only one to choice to make with Rondo and that is to trade him as he already "wants out."

It was reported that the player would also not sign a long-term deal with the Sacramento Kings which was recently rumored to be interested in getting him in a trade.

Fox Sports speculated that the 28-year-old Rondo, since he is in the prime of his career, doesn't want to join the Celtics in rebuilding the team but already wants to shine perhaps with other NBA basketball teams.

With his rumored departure from Boston, Bleacher Report said that it could be possible that Rondo will land a spot with the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Knicks.

It has been reported earlier that the Knicks tried getting Rondo last year during the trade season while the Lakers have been eyeing him since early last year.

Bleacher Report said that Rondo could end up in these two teams after he opts for free agency next summer.  It added that these two teams are not ready to sign up their young players for Rondo this time if they have the chance to grab him hassle-free next year. He is still currently with a 5-year contract with the Celtics.

Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds in his previous games but he missed almost half of the previous NBA season due to his ACL recovery. His NBA career has been highlighted with his defense strategy on the court.

The Celtics, according to Fox Sports, is still lucky that they were able to secure Oklahoma State point guard, Marcus Smart, in this year's NBA draft. Smart is said to be a very good replacement for Rondo in case he drops out of the team or is traded.

But in a report by CBS Sports, Rondo denied that he asked to be traded. A spokesperson of the player said that he never asked for a trade or for him to be out of the team.

But regardless if he did express trade plans or not, CBS said that there will always be rumors about him transferring to other teams plus the fact that he will already be a free agent next summer.

Whether or not he will transfer or be traded to another team, Rondo still needs to prove that the team which will get him will be able to benefit from his skills. Many reports have claimed that the unhealthy player needs to step up his game for him to be able to raise his value as an NBA star worthy of keeping and of being traded.
