Nicki Minaj "Anaconda" Music Video Breakdown: What Did I Just Watch?

By Chad Arias | Aug 20, 2014

After watching Nicki Minaj's new "Anaconda" music video, viewers all around the globe had to stop for a moment and quietly think about what they had just witnessed. For some the depravity was a mark of sheer brilliance, and quickly they pressed the replay button, wishing to engage in another round of pure booty-shake madness. The other sect of viewers undoubtedly noticed how Minaj had slaughtered Sir-Mix-A-Lot's best track with a rusty butcher knife.

While the original track, "Baby Got Back," is a song about the finer part of woman, the key to Sir-Mix-A-Lot's style is that are so many innuendos implanted, that the song by itself is not inherently dirty. Minaj's new 2014 upgraded version however, gets right to the point and continues to dip lower and lower for it's 4:49 running time.

We decided to break down some of the best/worst elements in Minaj's "Anaconda" video. Depending on personal opinion, this list could consist of positives or negative, the choice is yours. Many things could be said about Nicki Minaj, but being shy about her sexuality isn't one of them.

Innuendos

While her lyrics may tell the story exactly how it is, Minaj could not get away with recreating the explicit acts on-screen. To cope with this minor setback, Minaj's video is jam packed with a slew of phallic imagery as well as hints at what she really means. We couldn't help but notice the appearance of a specific fruit that just kept popping up time and time again. This long yellow fruit was played with and diced up, leaving those of the male gender to wonder if they enjoyed it or not. There are also various images of cups overflowing, specifically a coconut running over with coconut milk. We won't go into that.

Drake

We're sure that Drake had no problem being a prop for Minaj. He was merely asked to quietly sit still while Minaj delivered her signature style of dancing all over his lap. Kudos Drake, what a lucky guy, he survived passing out from pure adrenaline and other impulses.

Dancing

We've got to hand it to Nicki that are some challenging and well delivered dance sequences in the video. When Nicki isn't rolling around on set, she seems to be working decently hard at being seductive like only she can. In a specific scene she breaks down into the splits, at which point we all give standing applause.
