Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Features: 5 Delightful Rumors About the Device

By Staff Reporter| Aug 13, 2014

With all the hype around the Note 4, Samsung fans could very well forget about the next-generation Galaxy phone. But these five exciting and delightful rumored specs and features are sure to remind fans why the Galaxy S is Samsung's flagship device.

Metal Chassis

According to Tech Radar, the next generation Samsung Galaxy S could have the sought-after metal casing. The Galaxy S5 is already a considerable improvement over the S4 with its dimpled faux leather rear. Now, if fan boys could only have it their way, a metal chassis like what's rumored for the Samsung Galaxy Alpha should be in store.

Snapdragon 805 / 808 / 810 Processor

Multiple sources are alleging different Snapdragon processors for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6. The Christian Post reported that either the Snapdragon 805 or 810 is in order for the device. "The 805 can support QHD while the 810 can fully support 4K," said the outlet.

Tech Radar, on the other hand, said that the next generation Samsung flagship device could come with either Snapdragon 808 or 810 under the hood.

"The Snapdragon 808 is a six-core 64-bit processor with support for 2K screens, while the Snapdragon 810 is an octa-core 64-bit chip which can power screens of up to 4K resolution and includes an Adreno 430 GPU, which is said to be 30% faster than the Adreno 420, so either way it should be in for a boost," added Tech Radar.

Bigger Screen Size

The current generation Samsung Galaxy S measures 5.1 inches and with the iPhone 6 allegedly coming up with a larger 5.5-inch model, the South Korean tech giant could very well catch up and roll out a flagship device of the same measurement.

However, Tech Radar noted that a .4-inch increase could be too much. The outlet speculated that the upcoming Samsung phone could have a screen with a size anywhere between 5.2 to 5.3 inches.

4K Display

Should the S6 come with Snapdragon 810, a 3840 x 2160 display could be on the horizon. Tech Radar, in another report, said that Samsung already announced plans of having devices with 4K display out by 2015.

20MP Camera

Air Herald said that the S6 could very well come with a 20MP snapper. The Christian Post speculated that a 16MP snapper is more likely than a 20MP. There are current devices which already have 20MP cameras such as the Nokia Lumia 1520, the Sony Xperia Z1 and even Samsung's very own Galaxy K Zoom.

There is no clear release date for the Samsung Galaxy S6 but its predecessors have launched during the Mobile Word Congress annual event. This makes another MWC launch for the S6 highly possible, so March 2015 maybe?
