Windows 9 Preview Release Date Could be Fall [Rumors]

Microsoft is preparing to kick up their Windows software into high gear as reports indicate that the company will have its Windows 9 public review sometime this fall.

According to ZDNet, the Windows 9 operating system, code-named "Threshold" is due for release Spring 2015 but it's public preview is going to be done around October. After two updates of the Windows 8, Microsoft is going down a different path set to deliver a completely remodeled OS that will appeal not only to new users but its fan-base committed to the lower OS versions.

The tech company is reportedly trying to merge the features of its Windows 8 but at the same time, provide the designs sought by "hold out Windows 7 users." With this in mind, a number of the features integrated into the next version of the platform is geared for traditional "desktop" users.

"Windows 9 is arguably the most important software release in Microsoft's history. Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1 have done a little to repair the damage from its most recent, and largely unpopular, operating system, and it's clear Microsoft needs to produce another Windows 7 and not a Windows Vista style disappointment," comments Trusted Reviews.com

This basically means that the "Threshold" version has optimized the mouse-and-keyboard user experience. The previous operating system, Windows 8, didn't succeed as planned because a chunk of Windows users found the system too complicated as it was designed more for tablet and portable device users.

TechRadar notes that one of the main components of the Windows 9 system is the "re-introduction" of the Mini-Start menu which "will include the usual list of applications. Plus, users will supposedly be able to pin Metro-styled live tiles to the start menu."

Microsoft has already provided a number of changes/ updates to the present Windows 8 in the hopes that it will appease some of the frustrations of desktop users. One of the changes was the inclusion of a pseudo-Start button in its desktop user interface.

Microsoft is struggling to have its OS users upgrade to newer versions because there are a number of Windows XP and Widows 7 fanatics who refuse to move on to the company's newer platforms. It looks like Microsoft will be doing the public review to hopefully encourage old school users to convert to the upgraded operating system.

Meanwhile, for those who are already running the Windows 8 OS, Update 2 is expected to drop sometime in August and will be included in Microsoft's monthly security patches. It should provide updates for bug fixtures, hardware improvements as well as minor interface adjustments, writes The Verge
