Billboard Mexican Music Awards 2013: Jenni Rivera and Gerardo Ortiz Top Finalist List

With less than two months before the Billboard Mexican Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Calif., the competition's finalists have been announced. During a special live broadcast of the morning show "Un Nuevo Día" on August 22, Telemundo releaved the finalists for each of the award's categories, which are based on the Billboard rankings. 

In this year's nominee announcement, the late Jenni Rivera surprised everyone when proved her continued popularity by obtaining 10 nominations in 8 categories, among them "Artist of the Year," "Female Artist of the Year," "Albums: Artist of the Year" and others. Rivera was surpassed by singer Gerardo Ortiz, who leads with 14 nominations in 13 categories, El Universal reported.

It is worth noting that Ortiz, who is currently a recipient of 13 Billboard Mexican Music Awards, has a double nomination in the "Album of the Year, Norteño" category for the albums "El Primer Ministro" and "Sold Out: live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live."

Mexican artists will compete in 32 categories, which include "Artist of the Year," "Album of the Year," "Song of the Year," "Artist of the Year, Debut," "Artist of the Year, Digital Download," "Artist of the Year, Airplay" and various categories for Banda, Norteño, Ranchero/Mariachi and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia.

The Billboard Mexican Music Awards 2013 air on Wednesday, October 9 at 7/6 p.m. Central Time.
