Portugal is trying to reinsert themselves into the mix after getting blown out by Germany 4-0. On the U.S. side things are looking up as they were able to defeat Ghana 2-1, gaining precious momentum and confidence.

Group G is ruled by Germany and the United States after both squads were able to come away with victories. In order for the bottom feeders to have a shot at making it to the next round points need to start falling their way.

In the opening half of the match against Ghana, US forward Jozy Altidore injured his hamstring as he raced down the field on a one-on-one drive. Altidore was taken off the field on a gurney and did not return. Altidore is not expected to play against Portugal on Sunday, although Manager Klinsmann said he could if it was extremely necessary. The US will look to cruise against Portugal while resting their injured star, hopefully saving him for the later rounds. Dempsey also suffered a broken nose in the match, but it will not affect him coming into Sunday's match.

In order for Portugal to climb back into Group G, Ronaldo has to start showcasing his solid playing skills. All eyes are on Ronaldo waiting for the highlight reel player to show his 'stuff' on the biggest stage. Germany excelled at shutting Ronaldo out, even though he did have a few opportunities to score. Ronaldo isn't going to get many gifts, so when the occasion does arise he has to take full advantage of it.

Coming into Sunday's match the US team is favored due to poor play of Portugal as of late. One of Portugal's stars players, Pepe, will miss the match due to an ill-advised red card that could damper his team's chances. Even after a win against the athletic Ghanaian squad, American fans are still timid about believing that this team can go the distance. Their 2-1 victory over Ghana lacked the dominance that is shown by other top-caliber nations.
