'The Fosters' Season 2 Spoilers: David Lambert Discusses Brandon's Future Following Dramatic Spring Finale

By Jessica Michele Herring | Mar 27, 2014

Callie and Jude geared up for adoption day while Brandon dealt with his inner demons on the spring finale of "The Fosters."

In "Adoption Day," Brandon (David Lambert) confesses that he bribed Anna, and his parents tell him that he can't tell anyone what he's done. Stef (Teri Polo) tells Mike (Danny Nucci) to stay away from Anna and that Brandon needs to move back to her house.

Mike goes home and kicks his girlfriend out of his house, as he blames her for Brandon's bad behavior.

Meanwhile, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) goes to Zac's (Julian de la Celle) house, and his mom answers the door and remembers Mariana, but doesn't remember anything from the night before. Zac confesses to Mariana that his mom has early-onset Alzheimer's Disease.

Stef goes to Anna and tells her that she's going to pay her the $10,000 she requested, as long as she stays away from her family.

Later, Lena (Sherri Saum) meets with her sperm donor, and he confesses to her that he doesn't want to have a child whom he isn't allowed to visit. Lena gets a pregnancy test to see if she's pregnant, as she was already inseminated with his sperm. She then heads home and tells Stef what happened, and Stef confesses to her that she doesn't want to have a baby.

Callie (Maia Mitchell) tells Brandon that she is going to be adopted, and he reassures her that he is okay with her becoming his adopted sister.

It then turns out that Lena is not pregnant, so she tells Stef that she has nothing to worry about.

Over at Mike's, Dani, Mike's ex, comes back to get her stuff and finds Brandon drunk on the couch, upset that he's no longer with Callie. Dani then puts him to bed, then seduces him and joins him in bed. In the morning, Brandon wakes up and Dani's gone, but he has a voicemail from his father, who's drunk and crying about how sorry he is.

Meanwhile, Jude (Hayden Byerly) believes he might be gay because he became jealous when his friend Connor likes a girl from school. Lena tells him that they will love him regardless if he's gay or straight.

Later, Mariana goes to Zac's house, and sees a big bruise on his face. His mom had lost her memory again, and attacked him because she didn't know who he was. Mariana tells him to call his dad to ask for help.

It's then finally time for Jude and Callie's adoption. Lena takes Stef aside at the courthouse and tells her that she was spotting and didn't get her period, meaning she is pregnant after all. Stef bursts into tears, saying she's actually happy they're having a baby.

The judge tells Stef and Lena that the name of Callie's father is not Donald--on her birth certificate, the name listed is Robert Quinn. The judge tells them that they have to track down her biological father to get him to sign over his rights. Callie tells Lena and Stef to go through with Jude's adoption even though they can't adopt her yet.

Afterwards, Callie sits down with her friend Wyatt and tells him that not getting adopted doesn't change anything about her relationship with Brandon, then kisses him.

Meanwhile, Brandon goes to Mike's house to get the rest of his stuff, but gets jumped by Vico and is beaten until he's unconscious.

David Lambert spoke to TVLine about what's in store for his troubled character, as well as his character's relationship with Callie, when the series returns in June.

"Brandon has always had a connection with Callie and has very intense feelings for her and cares about her greatly," Lambert said. "They're very close, obviously. But there's always this underlying thing of Brandon really almost loves her from afar, in a weird way. Callie always has so much on her plate that he tends to be that person for her. But things have gotten so nutty now, it can't be that even though he wants that so much."

He said that Callie and Brandon's relationship is a no-go at his point.

"In Callie's mind, she's just so set to be adopted, to have a family, to have a place where she belongs, to stop worrying. She's tired at this point," he said. "The Brandon thing is an unfortunate occurrence, but I don't think she feels like there's much she can do there."

While fans may be shaking their head at Brandon's poor decision-making, Lambert said he has enjoyed playing up Brandon's darker side.

"I assumed this kid is very wholesome and very happy, so it's only a matter of time until it completely goes away for him and something's going to happen," Lambert shared. "I wasn't sure to what extent or how that would present itself. But yeah, I've really enjoyed making mistakes as Brandon and fielding all those internal conflicts. It's been very fun."

He also explained that Brandon is going through so much personally that the Callie situation may be put on the back burner.

"He's going through so much right now anyway with his own mess-ups that, as of right now, I feel like he doesn't even want to deal with the whole Callie thing," he explained. "That messes up him and causes him a lot of anxiety. But Wyatt is definitely a good rock for Callie and should be around to help her and be a good friend almost in the way that Brandon used to be."

"The Fosters" will be on hiatus until its summer premiere on June 16.
