Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2014: 6 Amazing Pre-Carnival Pictures You've Got to See

By Yara Simón| Feb 27, 2014

The Rio de Janeiro Carnival doesn't kick off until Friday, but already you can see everything that goes into making floats and costumes for participants. Here are the six best things that you've got to see before the event launches.

Two women participated in the Sky on Earth block party, and they chose to wear Wonder Woman costumes. They get points for choosing one of the coolest female superheroes, and also being able to comfortably go around in their costumes.

Pictured are workers preparing a carnival float. The characters being prepared by the workers are wearing super brightly colored dresses that show off pretty decent pattern mixing. Also, note the size of the people next to the characters. This will make for an interesting float.

Talk about commitment. The man in the picture goes all out with his hula-inspired look. He wears a wig, hair accessories, a flowery bra and a grass skirt. He didn't skip any details, and is much more accessorized than those he's pictured with, and the man in the background who is only adorned by a clown nose.

This reveler is not even dressed in a costume, but she looks fabulous. She keeps to the casual theme that so many do with her flip flops, but she manages to have a fun outfit that still works in everyday life. Plus, she's pro crop top, as so many editors have been in the past year.

This green, yellow and blue spiked piece is ornate. It almost looks like something that you could find in a Carnival costume, so it's fun imagining what a corresponding costume will look like.

These large figures are in the middle of being assembled, and it's just interesting to compare one that has been slightly painted to one that's completely untouched. Plus, that's got to be one of the most graceful float toppers to exist.
