NFL Trade Rumors 2014: Kirk Cousins Willing to Stay With Washington Redskins, But Wants Starting QB Job

Kirk Cousins expressed willingness to stay with the Washington Redskins in the 2014 NFL season, but the backup quarterback reiterated his desire to become a starter.

Cousins, who previously hinted that he wanted a change of scenery next season, told the Washington Post that he is still open to spending next season with the Redskins.

"I love this city, I love the fan base, the tradition of our organization. I love the people in our organization, my teammates. I've really come to love it here; I'm very comfortable here in D.C. So If someone were to say, you're gonna be here for a year or two more years - or even longer than that - I really don't have any worries about that," Cousins said.

The 25-year-old quarterback quickly added that he wants to have a chance of at least competing for a starting role, but Cousins is not expected to get that chance in Washington.

Previous reports indicated that Cousins will have to settle for a backup role next season because Robert Griffin III is expected to be the Redskins' full-time starting QB.

Cousins admitted that being named as Washington's starting QB is a long shot at this point, saying that he is still open to a trade to a team that can give him a shot at competing for a starting job next season.

"Because of the situation I was drafted into in D.C. that obviously isn't in the cards for me," Cousins said of getting a starting role. "And so my attitude all along has been, if someone wants to give me that opportunity to have that chance to compete, I'd love to go somewhere."

But while he is aching to prove that he deserves a shot at a starting QB role, Cousins quashed previous reports that indicated he asked the Redskins for a trade before the 2014 NFL season.

"I've signed a four-year contract and I want to honor that contract, so I'm not going to demand anything. You know, I'm grateful for the opportunity to play in the NFL. I feel like I'm living the dream. So no, I'm not going to demand anything," Cousins stressed.

Previous rumors suggested that the Buffalo Bills were interested in acquiring Cousins, who had 854 passing yards with four touchdowns last season.
