The World Cup is a year away, but fans will have a chance to start purchasing tickets for the big event at the end of the summer. FIFA's official website announced on Wednesday how and when fans can purchase their tickets.

"As of 20 August 2013, football fans around the world will have the opportunity to purchase tickets from www.FIFA.com. Ticket prices and all further details on the ticket sale will be available on FIFA.com on 1 July 2013," reads the site.

The World Cup will take place in Brazil next summer. Heading into June's qualifiers, no other team has clinched a spot in the tournament. Japan is a win away from accomplishing the feat.

In a few weeks, the host nation will get a chance to showcase its new stadiums to the world during the Confederations Cup. That tournament will begin on June 15 and will run through June 30. Brazil will compete in Group A against Italy, Japan, and Mexico while Spain will battle with Uruguay, Nigeria, and Tahiti in Group B.

There has been a great of controversy over the stadiums in Brazil. FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke recently visited a number of stadiums and stated that some of the venues were not ready for the World Cup. Valcke made it clear that FIFA would not accept any delays and even threatened to prevent the tournament from taking place in cities that were not ready to host.

"I think we have been clear," Valcke said. "There will be no delay. No way that we can accept any delay for the World Cup 2014. Because as you will see for the World Cup we need a lot more time to install all the facilities for the media, for the hospitality, for all of what we need in order to deliver the World Cup".
