Valentine's Day 2014: 5 Ways to Wear a Red Lip

By Yara Simón| Feb 08, 2014

Red lipstick is magical.

It works on every skin tone, and instantly adds a healthy dose of glam. The best part is that there's more than one way to wear a red lip. Try one of these for Valentine's Day:

With a Smudgy, Navy Eye
A bold eye is an expected choice, but a comparable dark navy is a surprise. Use either a black on the top half or skip it altogether. The point is to let the blue pop against the red lips. Finish the look off with mascara, and you'll be ready to go.

Dark and Sexy
Take a page out of Lily Collins' book, and choose a deeper red. The smokey eye combines gray, white and shimmery silver to achieve the right amount of dark and sultry. Make sure not to go too heavy on the glitter.

Vintage Inspired
Amy Adams' makeup look is fit for an Old Hollywood star. She went for an orange-red shade. If you have thick eyebrows, you're in luck. If not, fake it. Go very light on the eyeshadow, and accentuate your eyes with a cateye. Take it even further by styling your hair into soft waves.

Mattified
Go for a non-shiny lipstick. At the Fall 2013 Costello Tagliapietra show, models had neat black eyeliner for a look that's elegant and bold. For the lips, pick either a lip stain or use regular lipstick and top with powder pigment for a matte appearance.

Two-Toned
Kenneth Cole's models sported red lips, with the outer edges being darker than the inner edges. There are a few different iterations on this trend, such as a top lip color that's different than the bottom lip. This look is all about finding what works best for you, and really, the sky's the limit.
