Cory Monteith, one of the stars of the hit American TV show 'Glee', was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday.

Monteith, who was famous for his portrayal of football-star turned singing heartthrob Finn Hudson in the hit high-school TV show, was found dead on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific hotel in Vancouver. The Canadian actor missed his checkout time, prompting hotel staff to check his room.

Vancouver Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe said in a press conference that the 31-year-old actor had been dead for several hours before his body was discovered.

Doug LePard, the acting Vancouver Police Chief, said that the cause of the death is still unknown pending an autopsy, but investigators had already ruled out foul play. Medical examiners are scheduled to conduct an autopsy on Monday.

Hotel staff confirmed that Monteith had several visitors on Friday night, but surveillance cameras showed that Monteith was already alone when he last returned to his room during that night. LePard said that they are quite sure that the actor was alone when he died.

When asked about the possibility of drug overdose as the cause of the death, LePard did not give a clear conclusion, but hinted that they found things in the room that could be critical in their investigation.

Monteith's drug struggle has been well-documented. Earlier this year, the actor spent time in a drug addiction treatment facility. He was also vocal about his struggles, admitting in an interview with the Parade magazine that he started taking drugs at the age of 13.

Monteith also admitted in a 2011 interview that he was sent by her mother and friends into rehab, admitting that he was "lucky to be alive" after taking "anything and everything" before.
