Demi Lovato Thankful for Kardahian Kurves

Demi Lovato has come a long way since being a Disney actress. Overcoming rehab and body issues, she is now a certified pop star with an inspirational book to her name. Her latest album, "Confidence," even speaks about her comfort in her own skin.

It certainly took a while for Lovato to get there, but now that she's on top of her game, she had a very unlikely family to thank for her new-found love for herself. In a recent appearance on Ellen, Lovato shared, "When I was growing up... it was in the era when very, very thin people were the popular ones in Hollywood. That's what I had to look up to."

However, all that changed when the Kardashians took Hollywood by storm which changed everything for the singer. She told Ellen, "When the Kardashians came on the scene, that was the first time that I associated curves with beauty and I remember thinking it was so cool. Even when I was struggling with food, I was able to look at Kim's curves and be like, 'I should really be proud of my curves.'"

Teen Vogue noted that the Kardashians are not exactly the first celebrities to embrace their curves --Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, for instance, did not fit into the celebrity mold of stick-thin bodies either. However, the Kardashians served not only as a reminder of curves being beautiful but they represented diversity in Hollywood as well. They may not be too much of a deviation, but as Lovato told Ellen, their confidence gave her the same confidence she had when she decided to do an unretouched photo shoot for Vanity Fair.

Us Magazine noted that in the pictures, the 23-year-old was photographed entirely nude, without a stitch of makeup in the bathtub of her hotel room in Mahnhattan. Lovato said that the images were not retouched as per her request.

Speaking about the shoot in a behind-the-scenes video, she shared, "I would have never thought that I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I would have felt comfortable doing that. It's empowering and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body image issues. And you can feel comfortable and confident in yourself."

Now, as a more confident adult, Lovato hopes to be a role model for girls. She said, "I want to be the difference for people growing up. Because I wish that somebody had gone to me whenever I was 12, 13, and said, 'Hey, you don't have to look like that to be cool.'"
