Hugh Jackman Impossible to Replace as Wolverine in X-Men Franchise?: Top 5 Fan Favorites for the New Weapon X

"X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg declare that nobody can replace Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine in the near future, but fans have a different idea.

In an interview with the Digital Spy, the two creative minds behind the upcoming "X-Men" flick agree that the Australian hunk is irreplaceable in the role he has played for decades.

"I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories," Singer told the outlet, adding that their only option was to convince Jackman to postpone the inevitable and continue playing Wolverine.

"Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else playing the part, and there's not too many characters I can say that for," he added.

With this and Jackman's announcement that the next solo Wolverine film would be his last, there remains a question on how the creative team would handle the franchise without the hairy clawed hero.

According to Cinema Blend, there are two options they could take: choosing another actor to play Logan or kill the character off altogether.

For the first option, Forbes and Hollywood.com offered a couple of actors whom they believe fit the character "best."

Tom Hardy

Like Jackman, Tom Hardy has also had his resume filled with muscle-pumping action movies, making him the top candidate for the role.

According to Forbes, while Jackman's Wolverine usually has that heroic air in him, Hardy's may provide a bit more brooding, with a slight anti-hero approach, leaning more on "the grayest shades of morality."

Scott Caan

According to Hollywood.com, this Golden Globe nominee can act as the Wolverine "physically," mainly because of his 5'5" stature, which very closely resembles the Wolverine described in the comic books.

Aside from that, he can also pull off the sly sense of humor Logan has become popular for, based on Caan's performance in the TV series "Hawaii Five-O" and the 2015 flick "Entourage."

Shia LaBeouf

While he may appear small-ish for the role, Shia LaBeouf caught Forbes' attention because of his past "bad boy" reputation.

"Shia is a terrific actor who always finds the right balance of drama, humor, and physicality in his roles. He, like Hardy, would give Wolverine much more of the edgy, anti-hero sensibilities and tap into a raw, down-and-dirty aspect of the character," the outlet described.

Kit Harington

Forbes believes that the "Game of Thrones" star is a great candidate to play Wolverine because he "has both the strong acting chops and the right look."

The outlet even described him as "brooding yet always honorable, angry but good at heart," referring to his role as Jon Snow in GoT as well as his 'edge.'

Scott Eastwood

Noting Jackman's resemblance to his father, Scott Eastwood made the list of candidates to be the next Wolverine simply because he looks like the Australian actor and has similar mannerisms, too.

According to Forbes, if only the "Longest Ride" actor was not cast in a film that is in a very different universe (i.e. DC Universe), he would have been perfect for the role.
