'Hart of Dixie' Season 3 Episode 9 Spoilers: Wade Gets Hot and Heavy With Zoe's Cousin

By Jessica Michele Herring | Jan 13, 2014

When "Hart of Dixie" returns tonight, the residents of the charming little town of Bluebell will get a bit risque.

TVLine released an exclusive trailer for the second half of the season, and it shows the characters hooking up-- and possibly breaking up.

Wade's (Wilson Bethel) new relationship with Zoe's (Rachel Bilson) cousin Vivian (Lauren Bittner) will be discovered when Zoe and Joel (Josh Cooke) walk in on a very intimate moment.

"Have you slept with every woman we've met today?" Joel asks the lothario bartender.

The trailer also features Joel getting a drink thrown in his face by his girlfriend, George (Scott Porter) and Tansy's (Mircea Monroe) kiss (possibly in a dream), and Lynley's (Antoinette Robertson) jealousy rearing its ugly head.

The trailer also shows the men of Bluebell getting down to their underwear in front of a crowd of ladies, Zoe included.

On the last episode of the series prior to its hiatus, Zoe threw a Hanukkah party and engaged in a kiss with a former flame.

In "Miracles," Zoe invites Vivian to the Hanukkah party, but she declines, saying that she should forget about trying to become close with the Wilkes family.

Meanwhile, Lemon (Jaime King) is not too happy about Brick (Tim Matheson) potentially being the father of Shelby's (Laura Bell Bundy) child.

Brando Wilkes then comes into Zoe's practice to get treated for a squirrel bite. While there, he tells Zoe that he lost his wife of 52 years about two years ago, and has been trying to get himself back out into the world with art classes and senior softball. Zoe invites Brando to lunch at the Rammer Jammer, which he accepts.

At lunch, Brando and Joel's grandmother, Sylvie, hit it off. Meanwhile, Lemon doesn't want her father to make more promises to Shelby, so she calls in Grandma Bettie.

Tansy gives Wade some anti-anxiety pills to calm him down before his dentist's appointment, only he takes three times the recommended dosage.

Zoe runs into Brando in town, and he thanks Zoe for introducing him to Sylvie.

Zoe then walks into the hay maze, which is set up for the harvest festival, and spots Wade, intending to speak to him about what's going on with her family. Wade is very loopy from the medication, and kisses her then walks away as if nothing happened. The following morning, Wade finds Zoe in his room, making him promise that it will never happen again. After Zoe leaves, it's revealed that Tansy, who was staying on the couch, overheard the conversation.

At the harvest festival, Vivian finds Brando and Sylvie canoodling in the hay maze. Vivian is furious, but Brando stands up to her, saying she can't take out her frustration about her husband leaving her on them.

Lemon confronts Bettie, who changed her tune and wants Shelby's child to be a Breeland. However, it's revealed that Shelby's baby isn't Brick's-- it's a sperm donor's. Bettie is furious and storms out of the room, causing her to fall and break her hip.

Vivian then opens up to Zoe about her husband leaving, and Zoe invites her to the Hanukkah celebration again, which this time she accepts. Vivian then runs into Wade, who she went to high school with.

Later, Wade and Vivian flirt a bit, then Zoe, the Wilkes family, Joel, Wade and the rest partake in a fun Hanukkah party that gives Zoe the familial closeness she's always wanted.

Executive producers Leila Gerstein and Len Goldstein spoke about the show's drama-filled midseason finale to TVLine.

They shared that Vivian and Wade will get romantically involved, which will be difficult for Zoe. But is Wade just dating Vivian to get back to Zoe? "Probably. Maybe. Possibly," Gerstein said.

"Zoe and Wade will always be at the forefront, no matter what relationship they have. As the season goes, they continue to evolve with a friendship and a relationship in general. They're important to us... but you never know where life takes you," Goldstein said.

The producers said that Joel's relationship with Zoe brings a different dynamic to the show. "We liked it [Joel] because it gave us another side of Zoe, and we got to do some fish-out-of-water stories that we didn't actually get to do with her. And we love the growing friendship with Joel and Wade, which has some great payoffs," Goldstein said.

As for Tansy's reappearance, it may impact George and Lynly's relationship. "We brought Tansy back to shake up Lynley and George and Lavon. He promised Lavon he would do right by Lynley, but then here comes the love of his life - maybe - so we're going to play that triangle, for sure," Gerstein said.

They also hinted that the Shelby and Brick romance will continue, and there will be a three-episode arc about the possible merging of Filmore and Bluebell.

On the next episode, "Something to Talk About," "Wade (Wilson Bethel) has asked Zoe Hart's cousin Vivian Wilkes out on a date. Lynly is worried that her boyfriend George Tucker might still have feelings for his ex-girlfriend Tansy Truitt (Mireca Monroe). And Shelby (Laura Bell Bundy) shows up at Brick Breeland's house with a surprise."

"Something to Talk About" airs Monday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
