Apple App Store Downloads: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) Announces $10 Billion Spent on Apps, December Most Successful Month for App Store Ever

Apple Inc. earned billions of additional dollars via its App Store during 2013, while the month of December alone proved to be the most successful month in the App Store's history. 

During 2013, consumers spent $10 billion in the App Store, Apple announced. In December, buyers snapped up $1 billion in apps. 

"We'd like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store," said Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue. "The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014."

According to a statement released by Apple, 3 billion apps were downloaded during December, making it the most successful month for the Apple App Store ever. Furthermore, Apple developers earned $15 billion courtesy of the App Store downloads.

Apple noted its latest mobile operating system, iOS 7, helped developers utilize a redesigned interface with more than 200 new features for apps.

Apple recognized developers such as AirBnB, Evernote, American Airlines, Pinterest, Tumblr, OpenTable, Candy Crush Saga, Minecraft, QuizUp, and Clumsy Ninja, for taking advantage of the new interface. 

Apple's App Store offers more than 1 million apps for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices for more than 155 countries worldwide.
