Motorola Droid 2 is Shatterproof? Specs, Features & Release Date

When Motorola introduced its Droid Turbo 2 on Tuesday, the company said the handset comes with a shatterproof screen, a first-of-a-kind technology introduced to mobile phones.

CNN Money said Motorola President, Rick Osterloh, has aimed to produce a phone that will not easily break, unlike others.

"People take it for granted that screens on phones would break. Our big realization was: We shouldn't accept that," Osterloh said.

In explaining the makeup of the unbreakable screen, CNN Money said it is made out of five distinct layers of material, each made to be shock absorbent.

The screen is supported at its back with an aluminium chassis where the display is attached. This makes it very durable.

Then the layer next to it is a flexible display, which appears like plastic laminate.

"In front of that is a flexible touch layer followed by a flexible lens layer. And it's all topped with a hard exterior lens that works like a screen protector," added CNN Money.

On its official website, Motorola discussed that the 5.4-inch display of the phone will have the so-called "Moto ShatterShiedl display."

Aside from this, it is said to come with a TurboPower charging capacity and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.

The Verge said that Droid Turbo 2 has a very useful battery which could last for as long as two days. It added that for heavy users the battery could only go down for about 10 percent in 14 hours.

In addition, Droid Life noted that the phone also has a very powerful 21MP camera, which functions well even in low light.

It also noted that the handset can be customized for no extra charge, depending on how you want it to look.

"With the Turbo 2 (and just like the Moto X Pure), you get access to Motorola's Moto Maker, which is a customization tool that lets you choose the amount of storage, frame color, back color, back material (leather, nylon or soft touch plastic), accent color, engraving, and boot-up greeting for your phone," added Droid Life.

But despite having all these great features, The Verge said that the phone is offered for the high price of $624. It claimed that its price range is already close to the best of the best in the smartphone market.

"And given that the Moto X Pure Edition sells for $399.99, you could possibly even buy that, break it, and repair it a couple of times before you'd have spent more than the Turbo 2 costs," added the same report.

Price is considered to be a big factor for this device since a lot of people find it hefty for the mobile offering.
