PS4 to PC Streaming Made Possible By Unofficial Android App

You have to love unofficial apps, if only for making your dreams come true.

At least, this is the case for PS4 users, who can now use an app that will trick their consoles into thinking that PCs are Remote Play devices.

The app, aptly called Remote Play PC, now lets PC gamers play PS4 games with the help of a Wi-Fi connection.

Sure, the Xbox One already has a game streaming program that allows gamers to play Xbox One games to a Windows 10 PC, but until today, PlayStation 4 only allowed their own games to support Vita or Select Android Devices. The Remote Play PC is a good way to start on that venture in gaming.

Unfortunately, the app isn't free, but relatively affordable at $10. According to Engadget, the developer, currently working under the pseudonym "Twisted," explained the need for charging. He shared, "The only way to support this is to charge for the app, all my previous projects have been free and I don't want to have to, but sadly it's the only way to support my living costs."

Cinema Blend mentioned that the project was actually just a pet that the developer was making in his spare time. However, the connection between the PS4 and PC allows for users to play via a password-protected Wi-Fi connection.

So what is PC streaming used for? Nothing really, except for better gaming experience. Having a bigger screen to play games like "Fallout 4" and "Until Dawn" while traveling is actually pretty awesome, especially when you think of having to tote your full console as an alternative.

However, as Cinema Blend pointed out, this app does not make the PS4 games on the PC like an emulator. It is actually just very similar to Windows 10 streaming Xbox One games with the help of the Xbox app. It also comes with mouse and keyboard support for an even better gaming experience.

With this app in mind, there are two things that Sony can do to keep their edge on the console market: first is to issue a cease and desist order to keep the developer from distributing the app (which Wololo pointed out, could lose gamers some of their money if the app is shut down), or the company could pay for the distribution rights and use it as their own edge against Xbox One and Microsoft.

For those interested in the Remote Play PC, the good news is that it is expected to launch by Wednesday. Check out how it's going to look below:
