Fans of the popular manga turned hit TV anime series, "Tokyo Ghoul," will be happy to hear that Season 3 has finally been confirmed. Even more good news, a mobile game based on the anime is also expected to come out.

Gen Fukunaga - CEO and President of FUNimation Entertainment - confirmed that there will be a Season three of "Tokyo Ghoul, while announcing the release of the anime's mobile game, reports Anime News Network.

Mobile game publisher, GameSamba, is working on 'Tokyo Ghou's" game. Both FUNimation Entertainment and GameSamba are susidaries of Group 1200 Media. During the mobile game's announcement, Fukunaga said:

"Ever since we began simulcasting the anime series last year, fans of Tokyo Ghoul have been clamoring for a mobile game. With Season 2 now finished and Season 3 set for 2016, the anticipation for the mobile game has only grown higher."

Fukunaga only mentioned Season 3 in passing, but it was enough to confirm that there will be a Season 3. Just to make sure, Anime News Network reached out to FUNimation for further confirmation. The company failed to tell ANN the precise release date of Season 3, but did say that it is "anticipating a 2016 release."

Unfotunately, no other news has been released about Season 3. However, Movie News Guide does note that the manga, which inspired the anime series, only has 43 chapters to date. The site reasons that 43 chapters does not provide enough material for a whole season. As a result, Movie New Guide concludes that the producers of the anime will have to look elsewhere for material.

As for the mobile game, GameSamba's official website states that the game will remain faithful to the storyline of Season 1 and Season 2 of "Tokyo Ghoul." In the game, players can decide whether they want to play as a ghoul or as a member of the Commission of Counter Ghoul force.

As a ghoul, players will get to hunt down humans like cattle. While as a CCG member, gamers will get to protect humans from the strong, scary yet misunderstood ghouls.

The mobile game of "Tokyo Ghoul" will be available on Android and iOS devices. It will be released in English all over the world in 2016.

For anime fans unfamiliar with "Tokyo Ghoul," it centers around a character, named Ken Keneki. The anime is set in modern day Tokyo, in which society is plagued by flesh-hungry ghouls. Ghouls require human flesh to survive and are not easy to spot, since they look exactly like humans.

In a twist of fate Keneki somehow turns into a ghoul. As a result, Keneki must walk the path between being a human and being a ghoul.
