Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra Update Release Date: New Firmware Spotted, Probably Android 4.3 Fixes

Sony has been aggressively updating its lineup to newer Android versions, and there seems to be no end in sight. It looks like the popular electronics manufacturer is gearing up to release a new firmware for the flagship Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra smartphones.

Firmware build 14.2.A.1.114 has been spotted over at the PTCRB website, and looks ready to release for the Xperia Z1 models C6902, C6903, and C6906 as well as Xperia Z Ultra models C6802, C6806 C6833, and C6843. The new firmware will bump up device builds from 14.2.A.0.290. A firmware release usually follows soon after the build appears on the PTCRB website.

According to XperiaBlog, the fact that the firmware bump is from 14.2.A.0.290 to 14.2.A.1.114 indicates that this is a rather significant upgrade. The Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra both recently received Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and Android 4.4 KitKAt isn't scheduled to roll out for the devices until 2014, so it's reasonable to assume that the new patch includes a number of fixes to technical issues that arose as a result of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update.
