MLB Trade Rumors 2014 Update: Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price For L.A. Dodgers’ Matt Kemp Deal Gaining Momentum

By Onchie Ebriega| Dec 19, 2013

The possible blockbuster trade involving Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Tampa Bay Rays ace hurler David Price has been gaining more momentum as major offseason transactions continue to pile up.

The Dodgers have shown their intentions of getting the best compensation package possible in exchange for the services of the former National League home run champion Kemp. According to Fox Sports baseball insider Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers really believe Kemp has a higher value than trading veteran outfielder Andre Ethier.

"Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Dodgers are looking to get the best package possible if and when Kemp is traded, and would be willing to eat some of the $128 million due to him over the next six years to make it happen," the insider disclosed via Sporting News.

Breaking Down Possible Price-Kemp Swap

Early this week, CBS Sports writer Matt Snyder provided the latest update on the David Price sweepstakes, anticipating that the Rays will finally move their prized pitcher before the start of spring training.

CBS Sports.com insider Jon Heyman also reported the Mariners, Rangers and Dodgers as the three biggest suitors for the former CY Young Award winner.

"Rays ace David Price may be on the move this offseason, as everyone who has been paying attention already knows. Obviously many teams have been mentioned as interested, as we're talking about a Cy Young winner still in his prime with two years left of club control. Three have emerged as the most serious suitors, though, according to CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman: the Mariners, Dodgers and Rangers," Snyder stated on his article.

Baseball insiders believed the Mariners have the most coveted assets (pitching prospect Taijuan Walker and James Paxton) to land Price, but the team's front office expressed their unwillingness to part ways with these future studs.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are expected to come up with a trade package consisting of Kemp, Zach Lee, 2012 first-rounder Corey Seager and outfielder Joc Pederson.

Price bagged the Cy Young Award in 2012, going 20-5 with a league-leading 2.54 ERA. On the other hand, Kemp made his mark in 2011 when he led the National League in homers (39) and RBIs (126).
