‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Episode 1 Air Date & Spoilers: Detective Getting a Change of Personality? [News & Rumors]

Fans of the famed detective are getting antsy about the next season, and even though it will still be a while, any news is good news for Sherlockians everywhere (unless it involves another delay). According to Entertainment Weekly, "Sherlock" writer and creator Steven Moffat dropped a lot of hits for the upcoming Victorian Special at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Among the hints that Moffat dropped is that the time period is not the only big change in the episode. He noted that Sherlock and Watson will have a change of attitude as well, and Bustle reckons that the creator really wants to make it a proper Victorian-era episode.

For those who are wondering, Moffat already explained that there will be no explanation as to how or why Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) found themselves in a new era, so it's just a fun adventure for fans to look forward to while season 4 is still in the works.

Moffat shared during the press tour that Sherlock is "a lot less brattish when he's back then..." while Watson is said to be a little more upright, which, according to Cinema Blend is understandable, considering that the Victorian Era Military is "more regimental".

Here are some things that have been revealed and hinted about the upcoming special episode:

1. It's going to be spooky. Moffat confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the Victorian episode calls for a spookier than normal episode, although the ghosts definitely won't be real.

2. Mrs. Hudson won't be left behind, and she's even cooler in the Victorian era. As seen in the teaser, she even comes around to scolding Watson for making her out to be a silent housekeeper in his stories.

3. Molly will also be there, and anytime she appears is good time for "Sherlock" fans. She always felt slightly out of time in the series, so the Victorian episode should give her plenty of time to shine.

There is no specific release date for the upcoming episode yet. However, the producers have stopped calling it a "Christmas Special" and settled on "Victorian Special" instead, so there is no telling when it will actually arrive on the small screen. Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton said that it's going to air "soon-ish" and because unlike US networks, BBC (which has dibs on the series) tends to announce air dates only a few weeks in advance, fans will just have to take her word for it.

"Sherlock" season 4 will start production next spring, so avid viewers can bet the Victorian Special will arrive before then.
