Sony Xperia Z5 Sizing Up to iPhone 6 Plus? Release Date, Price, Specs & Features [Rumors]

A recent rumor about the Sony Xperia Z5 pits the handset directly against Apple's iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.

Design & Display

Mobipicker reported from popular tipster Leaksfly that the Xperia Z5 will come in bearing a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display with a pixel density of 401ppi. The iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display as well, GSM Arena took note.

The rumored 5.5-inch display of the Xperia Z5 is an improvement over the 5.2 inches seen in the entire flagship Sony handsets, which began on the original Xperia Z, Tech Radar pointed out. Phone Arena reported from xperiablog.net that the smartphone will have an Omnibalance design language, with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 serving as its operating system.

Back in April, there were also reports claiming that Sony will ditch the angular design of its smartphones, CNET reported. Fans should wait if this rumor will come to fruition when the Xperia Z5 finally rolls out.

Processor, RAM, and Memory Storage

The Xperia Z5 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset, much like the Xperia Z3, Mobipicker wrote. The device is said to have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory storage.

Camera & Other Features

As for its camera, the Xperia Z5 is rumored to be equipped with a 20.7 primary shooter and an 8-megapixel front-facing one for taking selfies, Mobipicker added. The device could be armed with three types of protection, as well as a fingerprint scanner, which would be a first for Xperia handsets.

CNET wrote that the Xperia Z5's specs weren't a major upgrade over the Xperia Z4. Besides the former's 5.5-inch screen display, there wasn't anything about the handset's specs that sets it highly apart of its predecessor.

The news outlet also pointed out that it will only be six months between the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z5's launch, which means "the two would be nearly identical specs-wise."

Release Date

According to CNET, the Xperia Z5 could be released as early as September, which is about the same time as consumers will get to see a new mobile device from Apple and Samsung. There are also rumors saying that LG will unveil its next outstanding smartphone for the second half of this year.

In addition, there are hearsays claiming that the Xperia Z5 will launch alongside the new James Bond film installment, "Spectre," as a device made for the iconic agent, Tech Radar wrote.

These are all rumors for now and consumers should wait for an official announcement from Sony regarding the Xperia Z5.
