Deron Williams to Sign Two-Year Contract With Hometown Dallas Mavericks

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Brooklyn Nets, point guard Deron Williams has reportedly reached a deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

ESPN reporter Marc Stein said Williams will ink a two-year contract with the Mavs which is worth around $10 million.

"The negotiations come in advance of Williams clearing waivers after he swiftly secured a buyout with the Brooklyn Nets. Williams would clear waivers 48 hours after his official release by the Nets," said ESPN quoting sources with information on the deal.

It was earlier reported that Williams was pushing for the buyout so that he could join the Mavs next season.

With this deal in place, ESPN sources added that the Nets will buy out Williams' remaining $43 million on his contract for only $27.5 million. The payments will reportedly be spread over the next five seasons.

In July 2012, Williams signed a five-year deal worth $100 million with the Brooklyn Nets.

"The first three years of that deal did not go as planned. Williams played to his usual star level in 2012-13 as the Nets finished fourth in the East, but he shot only 42.5 percent from the field in a seven-game first-round loss to a patchwork Chicago Bulls squad suffering through injuries," explained Yahoo Sports.

It was also noted that he struggled after he sustained ankle injuries that limited his participation even during the previous season. According to Yahoo Sports, the once top point guard in the NBA is now being bought out "to save his team some money."

In addition, the New York Post said that the Nets will also be saving themselves money for payroll and luxury taxes. This big savings could reportedly help the team keep Joe Johnson despite his massive $24.8 million contract.

On her Instagram account, Williams' wife Amy confirmed the news in a collage post with the caption: "Headed back to where it all started! After an incredible 10 years in the league I am MORE than excited to be GOING HOME!!!!!!! So incredibly proud of my husband and all he has accomplished and look forward to our future as #DallasMavericks #LetsGoMavs #HomeWardBound #TeamWilliams #Blessed #Excited #NewChapter @dwill8 And absolutely grateful to The Brooklyn Nets, their fans and the city for a great 4 years...also blessed for our 6 years in Utah with the Jazz!"

His homecoming, according to The Dallas Morning News, will mean less pressure compared to that in 2012 when the Mavs were also fighting it out with the Nets to get him during free agency.

"Back then, Williams was seen as the face of the Nets' franchise. That didn't work out so well for them," added the same report.

Signing with the Mavs could mean a great deal for the player and the team since Williams has one more shot to bring his career back while the team could certainly use his help for next season.
