Apple Watch Sales Reportedly Declining: Did Smartwatch Meet Apple's Expectations?

By Staff Reporter| Jul 09, 2015

A highly publicized but unofficial sales analysis report shows that the Apple Watch is not doing so good in the market.

According to Tech Radar, Apple Inc. is a company that consistently defined success by creating devices that suits the market's demands and even created innovations that made their products a necessary addition to people's everyday life.

This, however, seems to be a long streak about to be broken.  Business Insider reported that data from Palo Alto-based analytics company Slice Intelligence shows the iPhone-maker's alleged failure with its Apple Watch for the past few months.

According to the firm's report released in April, Apple Watch received a lot of love upon its launching, with around 957,000 people pre-ordering before its release date in the United States alone.

Their analysis revealed that of those who opted to buy the Watch, 62 percent chose to buy the less expensive Sport model. Most of the same population chose to also buy the more expensive of the bands on sale.

Business Insider stated that, in the chart released by Slice Intelligence over Twitter, Apple was able to sell an estimated 35,000 watches on April 13.

As days passed, the Slice Intelligence chart revealed how the Apple Watch sales declined, particularly in the month of June.

"#AppleWatch sales continue to decline in June. #data #Apple," the Twitter post read.

Unsure on whether the chart was correct, Twitter user Jozef Izso (‏@jozefizso) inquired about where the analysis firm based their data on.

Slice Intelligence answered that they  "get the data directly from the receipts of 2.5 million U.S. Online shoppers."

This, says Apple Insider, refers to a high-rated iOS app that assists Apple users make purchases from the Apple Online store, track their orders, help users in asking for refunds, monitor their spending habits and get alerts about price changes.

"There's no way to precisely fact-check how accurate Slice figures are, but we do know that Apple Watch is an entirely new product that has gone on sale in very unique circumstances," Apple Insider explained.

The report further said that the analysis were based on estimates and should not be deemed as straight fact data, considering that even professional financial analysts who monitor the sales of better understood and more mature market segments like that of Macs and iPhones "are routinely off by millions of units despite the much easier task of counting conventional channel sales of PCs and phones."

However, Apple has yet to release an official report on their smart watch sales, making data from Slice Intelligence estimates of the actual sales figures.
