Tom Holland has been chosen to play the titular role of the friendly neighborhood superhero in Marvel's "Spider-Man" and people are getting antsy to know more about him and why he was chosen.

Just last week, EW reported about Marvel's announcement regarding its plans to make its own version of "Spiderman" and revealed that the web-slinging comic book character would be portrayed by 19-year-old Tom Holland.

The British actor, who became famous for his role in the stage play "Billy Elliot: The Musical," was deemed the perfect candidate for the role particularly because of his age which, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige's statement to the Los Angeles Times, is just right to portray the original comic book Peter Parker.

"You look at the early comic books of Spider-Man and what was so great about what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko did was they said what if one of the most powerful heroes we have is a high school kid who also has to do homework and isn't a billionaire, or isn't a genius scientist, or isn't a trained assassin, or isn't another scientist who had an accident but is a kid?" he explained to the LA Times.

In a report, DenOfGeek.com revealed that Feige and the rest of the team had decided to go for the young British actor unanimously, with Marvel comic books creator Stan Lee rooting for him.

"He's good to me! I can't see anything wrong with him," Lee told Entertainment Tonight during the premiere of Marvel's "Ant-Man," further explaining that though he is not familiar with Holland's acting prowess, he believes that the young actor was chosen by Marvel because he fits the bill.

"I don't know him intimately - in fact, I've never seen him [onscreen]. But if [Marvel] picked him, I'm sure he's good!" Stan Lee said Monday.

This may be true especially after Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman revealed that though they were given many choices to portray the new "Spider-Man," they still found Holland the best choice among them all.

"We saw many terrific young actors but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start," he said.

What do you think? Is Tom Holland the perfect actor to play the wall-crawling superhero?

Of course, a good actor needs a great director to ensure the quality of the film and Marvel chose young director Jon Watts.

According to Feige as cited by Collider, Watts was chosen to be the helmer of the film because of how he pieced together the Sundance thriller "Cop Car."

"We met with a lot of people and came down to a couple of very, very, very good finals candidates. Jon just-we really liked his movie Cop Car, we met with him four, five, or six times, and each time he had more and more interesting things to say," he explained.
