The year 2015 may be the year of divorce, as another seemingly perfect Hollywood couple is set to legitimately split. After ten years of marriage, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are calling it quits.

The former couple said in a joint statement as quoted by the Los Angeles Times: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. ... Thank you for understanding."

Fans of the couple did not take the divorce too lightly, and many of them took to Twitter to share their different reactions.

@elizabeth_linz tweeted, "I HATE LIFE WHY ARE BEN AFFLECK & JENNIFER GARNER DIVORCING?!!!!!!!! WTF IS LOVE ANYMORE OMG MY HEART IS BROKEN."

@TheVladMan stopped believing in love by telling his followers, "Given up on love now that Ben Affleck and Jen Garner are getting divorced. My favorite Hollywood couple! Sad about this..."

Others decided to take the news lightly by tweeting jokes.

@TomMartinTV said, "Looks like Jennifer Garner finally saw Gigli."

@RealFakeBlake noted, "I will not make a Jennifer Garner 'Gone Girl' joke."

There were some who thought it was a coincidence that their divorce came after the marriage equality ruling from the Supreme Court.

@ColeLedford11 sent a tweet he hoped Ben would see, saying: "Gay marriage is legal and now Ben Affleck is single...coincidence??? I hope not #CallMe"

But there's also a hit for Jen, with @goldengateblond sending a tweet to the actress, saying: "I'm especially glad same-sex marriage is legal now that Jennifer Garner's about to be single again."

The pair met on the set of "Pearl Harbor" in 2001, and later starred alongside each other in the superhero film,"Daredevil." According to ABC News, they got engaged in April 2005 and got married two moths after while Garner was pregnant with their first child.

Although fans were shocked by the news, it seems that this is a long time coming. A source for Fox411 shared that the couple has been living separate lives for for several months now, but divorce will not be formally filed until the couple has worked out all the money, property and custody issues with their mediator and business managers.

TMZ also noted that because they separated amicably and that they are expected to share custody of their three children: nine-year-old Violet, six-year-old Seraphina and three-year-old Samuel.
