'Glee' Season 5 Episode 9 Spoilers: Rachel Faces Off With Santana When Series Returns

By Jessica Michele Herring | Dec 10, 2013

The latest "Glee" took viewers back in time--sort of--to see a "previously unaired" Christmas episode that involved sexy elves, a drunk santa and a live nativity scene.

The current timeline of "Glee" means that it is not yet Christmas on the series. To get around timing inconsistencies, the series creators decided to film a new episode that was supposed to take place a year ago.

In the beginning of the episode, Jane Lynch explained the situation (although it still came off as slightly confusing), that instead of skipping a holiday episode, they're airing "Previously Unaired Christmas," which Fox refused to air last year because it was "too controversial." Therefore, they made up a fiction so it wouldn't conflict with "Glee's" current timeline.

In the episode, Santana (Naya Rivera) visits Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) in New York. They all get jobs working as Santa's elves in a Manhattan mall, and the girls take on "sexy elf" personas. Yet, the man playing Santa turns out to be a drunk, so Santana steps in to play Mrs. Claus. She can't handle the unruly children and insistent parents, and at one point ends up talking about her failed relationship with Britney (Heather Morris) to a little girl.

Kurt and Rachel also invite a sexy shirtless Santa to their apartment, and he gets them drunk and steals everything.

Back in Lima, the New Directions decide to participate in Sue's (Jane Lynch) Christmas tree-decorating contest, and to keep with the Green Theme, they decorate it with items they find in a forest. Becky (Lauren Potter) also tapes mistletoe to her hat and, in her unsettlingly frank way, insists that both Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) make out with her.

The New Directions also audition to appear in a living nativity scene. They even perform Diana Ross & The Supremes '60s hit "Love Child" as part of the Nativity.

"Glee" is now on its winter hiatus and will return on its new night on Tuesday, Feb. 25. When the show returns, the next episode, called "Frenemies," will focus on feuding friends.

In the upcoming episode, "Rachel (Lea Michele) will face off with Santana (Naya Rivera). Kurt is going head-to-head with Elliott. And Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) will be feuding with her ex-boyfriend, Artie (Kevin McHale)."

When the series returns, it will also celebrate its 100th episode by bringing back familiar faces.

TVLine confirms that Dianna Agron, a.k.a Quinn Fabray, will be returning for the landmark episode, as well as Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum.

"Glee" will return for episode nine of its fifth season on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
