A brand new sneak peek for CBS' DC Comics adaptation "Supergirl" has been unveiled.

The upcoming series stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers or Kara Zor-El, who at 12 years of age arrived on Earth from the doomed planet Krypton and shares the superhuman abilities of her famous cousin, Superman. She tried to keep her superpowers a secret for so long, but upon reaching 24 years of age, she decides to embrace her true nature and be the hero she was destined for.

"Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret," SlashFilm reported from CBS' press release. "Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director."

The network's press release continued: "However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime."

Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Sarah Schecter, and Andrew Kreisberg serve as executive producers of the show for Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. "Supergirl" is directed by Glen Winter, who was also behind "The Flash," "Arrow," and "Smallville," SupermanSuperSite.com reported. The series will premiere on CBS this November on Monday evenings at 8:00 PM.

Laura Benanti will have a recurring role in "Supergirl" as Alura Zor-El. The pilot also showcases guest stars Jeremy Jordan as Winslow "Winn" Schott a.k.a. DC Comics' Toyman, Faran Tahir as The Commander, and Owain Yeoman as Vartox, IGN listed. Helen Slater and Dean Cain will also have mystery roles in the upcoming project.

In an interview with CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler last January, the DC Comics icon will be played out on TV as "a very strong, independent young woman," Entertainment Weekly reported, adding that the show will feature a "female empowerment story."

Tassler added that the series' genre will be a crime procedural, which will see Supergirl solving and fighting crimes, Entertainment Weekly noted. Variety reported that the pilot cost $14 million to produce.
