WWE News & Notes 2013: Rumored Opponent For CM Punk at Wrestlemania XXX, Potential Name for New Unified Championship

By Ed Molina| Dec 06, 2013

The Wrestlemania XXX plans for CM Punk, who is currently competing despite rib injuries, seems to be revolving around Triple H, according to PWInsider.com. The Web site reports that rumors are pointing to a potential Punk-Triple H match being set for the near future, with Wrestlemania a choice for the bout. Punk has recently been separated from the Daniel Bryan - Wyatt Family feuding and has been focused The Shield, The Authority's enforcers, who have been attacking him as a possible set-up for the feud against the WWE COO. Punk is scheduled to face The Shield at TLC pay-per-view in a 3-on-1 Handicap match.

Hunico has been wrestling under the Sin Cara mask, including Monday Night Raw's match against Alberto Del Rio. Mexican wrestler, Mistico, had been playing Sin Cara but his contract expires in January, and the WWE may not be picking up his contract option. Sin Cara merchandise has been selling well but WWE officials have been disappointed with Mistico, who has been injured at various points during his stint with the company. Hunico will likely continue to work under the Sin Cara mask, with the WWE saying that they "will continue to invest in the character and retain it as part of WWE programming."

WWE held a viewer poll last Monday Night Raw to help determine the possible new name for the unified WWE and Heavyweight titles, the prize on the line at the Tables, Ladders, & Chairs main event match between John Cena and Randy Orton at the TLC pay-per-view. The WWE Universe decided on "Unified Title" but the WWE is leaning using the name "Unified WWE Champion" for the new unified WWE Title and Heavyweight Championship.

Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Christian, and Eve Torres are set to return to this week's Monday Night Raw, as presenters for the Slammy Awards, which will be awarded throughout the show. Hart will present the Match of the Year award while Michaels will present the Superstar of the Year award.

WWE has recently signed Jasper Orton, WWE Champion Randy Orton's 18-year-old cousin, to a developmental deal. Jasper Orton, who recently graduated high school, will report to the WWE Performance Center after he recovers from a torn meniscus injury.

Indy star Adam Pearce, known for his epic seven match Seven Levels of Hate series against Colt Cabana (see video below), has also received an invitation to the WWE Performance Center, as a guest trainer. Pearce recently wrote "The next chapter begins" on his Twitter account, in reference to the invitation as well as "On my way to Tampa for live @WWENXT action! Join me, won't you?" Cabana recently received a tryout for an announcing gig with the company in November.
