LGBT Community in Total Support of Bruce Jenner? Here’s Why!

By Maria Myka| Mar 31, 2015

Same-sex marriage may be legal in the United States, but it seems that there are still a lot to learn about sexism and homophobia, and the LGBT community is more than eager to educate people about their judgment.

Thus, the outrage that sparked when singer and actor Jamie Foxx made "insensitive comments" about former Olympian, Bruce Jenner, and his rumored transitioning into a woman.

Reuters reported that at the iHeartRadio awards show on NBC, Foxx joked about Jenner's decision to turn into a woman. He said, "Bruce Jenner will be here doing some musical performances. He's doing a his and her duet all by himself."

He also added, "Look, I'm just busting your balls - while I still can."

These comments were not taken lightly by the LGBT community, and a group from the Trevor project released a statement saying that "insensitive comments made in the media only exacerbate the problem."

The organization also went on to say, "Given all the struggles that LBGTQ youth face on a daily basis, comments like these don't help to promote an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding."

The Trevor Project is an organization that provides support and counseling for youth in the LGBTQ sector, offering a safe social networking community. It also offers "best practice suicide prevention educational trainings, resources for youth and adults, and advocacy initiatives," the organization explained through its website.

Many others also blasted Foxx via social media, with popular celebrity blogger Perez Hilton Tweeting, "Boo! Shame on you #iHeartAwards for allowing @iamjamiefoxx to be transphobic on national television! Those #BruceJenner jokes were wrong!!!"

Another Twitter user noted, "Jamie Foxx just made a terrible, disgusting joke about Bruce Jenner's rumored transition on this trash awards show."

Someone else added, "Seriously #JamieFoxx? #BruceJenner jokes? You're disgusting, that's not ok. It wasn't funny, just mean spirited and lazy. #SupportLGBT"

Representatives for Foxx and Jenner have not responded to the outcry, yet.

Meanwhile, Jenner has reportedly decided to speak with veteran journalist Diane Sawyer about his decision to transform into a woman --- a decision that has become highly controversial considering that the former Olympian also happens to be part of reality-TV family, the Kardashian-Jenner clan from "Keeping Up With The Kardashians." Deadline claimed that the tell-all interview will be aired in late April.

It seems that Jamie Foxx needed to learn how to draw the line between funny and offensive, and it seems that he leaned more toward the latter, when he made those jokes about Jenner. However, do you think Foxx deserved to be under fire, or should people let his joke go?
