HTC One X Update Release Date: NFC Patch Rolls Out in Europe

By Keerthi Chandrashekar| Nov 27, 2013

While the next major update for the HTC One X won't arrive until 2014, it looks like European owners of the handset are getting treated to a small software update that's currently rolling out over the airwaves.

European HTC One X owners should begin seeing the download option for firmware 4.18.401.3 pop up any time now. As with all over-the-air update releases, not everybody will receive it immediately. Instead, updates are pushed out in batches, meaning it'll take some time before a majority of One Xs will be eligible for the download.

Those interested in manually downloading the upgrade can head over to https://t.co/CV52zZcgx9 to snag it straight from HTC's own servers.

The update is a rather small one, weighing only 13MB, and doesn't do much other than improve NFC stability, according to the reports over at XDA Developers. In fact, it's likely to be one of the last upgrades the One X ever sees.

The HTC One X is at the end of its life cycle, and HTC has only confirmed one major future update for the device. According to HTC USA, the One X will receive Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.5 sometime in 2014. No specific dates were given, but it's safe to say that the Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.5 update will be the last major bump for the One X. Sorry folks, but all signs point to the One X never receiving an official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade.
