Luis Suárez Says Booing From Manchester City Fans Propelled Him to Score Twice

By Ma. Elena Espejo| Feb 26, 2015

Luis Suárez did not let the booing from Manchester City fans deter him from scoring twice in Tuesday's 2-1 UEFA Champions League held at the Etihad Stadium. In fact, the Uruguayan used his detractors in the audience as motivation.

"There are certain types of players like me who get more inspired, more motivated when fans boo them, it helps motivate you a bit more," he said, as quoted by The Guardian.

The report added that the 28-year-old professional football player "felt City gave Barcelona too much space," which his team took advantage of. However, it added that "the last-16 tie is not over," with the second leg of the competition to be held in Spain on March 18.

Suárez said, "We produced a really good game, the team in general, and managed to take advantage of the space City left open. We were clever in our reading of the game and we created a lot of openings and could have scored another goal. Obviously it is pleasing, first of all to be able to help the team, they were important goals in a Champions League knockout game."

The FC Barcelona striker admitted that City is a challenging opponent, which, according to Suárez, "have a lot of good players who can win a game for them," The Guardian reported.

Did Luis Suárez Bite Martin Demichelis?

Suárez is currently in hot water concerning allegations between him and City defender Martin Demichelis in Tuesday's game. According to The Telegraph, a number of fans on Twitter questioned whether Suárez is back on his old tricks again, pointing out that in the game footage, he seemed to have attempted to bite Demichelis' outstretched right arm.

However, evidence confirms that the Barcelona player did no such thing. Neither Demichelis or his team comment on the matter, the news outlet noted.

"The incident was not discussed by Demichelis or anyone else at City after the game, indicating the defender had no sense of grievance," a City spokesman said, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Suárez has history when it comes to biting his opponents. In November 2010, having joined AFC Ajax at the time, he bit Dutch footballer Otman Bakkal's shoulder. In 2013, the similar incident happened while he was playing for Liverpool; this time with Chelsea FC defender Branislav Ivanovic, The Telegraph wrote.

The most infamous biting act of Suárez, however, happened during Uruguay's final World Cup group game. According to the news outlet, he chomped down into Italy's Giorgio Chiellini, earning him "a nine-game ban from world football."
