Nexus 6 2015 Edition Release Date: Top 5 Specs & Features on Wishlist

By Staff| Feb 10, 2015

As the calendar approaches this year's Mobile World Congress, much of the public's eyes are set on the Samsung Galaxy S6, HTC One M9 and Sony Xperia Z4 -- not to mention all their alleged variants. For quite some time, we've heard that the LG G4 and iPhone 6S / iPhone 7 would arrive but in separate dates, and with these flagships battling it out soon, we can only expect what the rest of 2015 can bring.

Now, we're looking at Google and its well-received Nexus devices. As told by the PCAdvisor, 2012 has brought the Nexus 4; the Nexus 5 came in 2013 and last year, the Lollipop-sporting Nexus 6 proved to be one of the best smartphones out in the market.

Considering the lineup's annual release pattern, are we bound to see a refresh soon? More interestingly, what's it going to look like?

For one, we might skip the idea of a Nexus 7, since it's already an existing tablet. PC Advisor is convinced that a Nexus 6 2015 may come instead, and while it has not been confirmed, here are some things pegged to pack with the smartphone.

1. A New Operating System

The new Nexus device will "most likely run Android M," the Tech Times predicted. The new operating system is touted to power automobiles of the future, but this doesn't eliminate its chances of running other platforms, most specially smartphones.

In fact, TechRadar has listed several desirable features to pack for the Android M, such as ultra power-saving mode, improved Google Wallet, integrated Google Health and Google Now and synced notifications.

2. An Upgraded Processor

The Nexus 4 and 5 were crafted by LG, AndroidPIT recalled. Last year's Nexus 6 is a work of Motorola, so we can't deny the possibility of a sequel coming from the same manufacturer.

Motorola may have actually enjoyed doing the Nexus 6 so much, as it is rumored to work on a Droid-branded version of the device. According to Digital Trends, the device "will most likely sport many of the same specs as the original Nexus 6."

However, one particular deviation cited by the outlet is the inclusion of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810. The Nexus 6, as you would know, packed Snapdragon 805.

3. Mega-Sized Megapixels

Everybody loves clear pictures -- unless art and design constraints required them grainy, blurry and the like. The current Nexus 6 housed a 13 MP main camera, supported by 4K-UHD video capture, 4X digital zoom and OIS.

If reports are to be believed, potential rivals Galaxy S6 and Xperia Z4 will bring cameras worth 20 MP, so it'd be nice to find the new Nexus 6 somewhere along the line.

4. Clearer Than Ever

According to the Empire State Tribune, ABI Research, a technological market intelligence firm, predicted that 4K (Ultra HD) screens will become key players in this year's smartphones.

Interestingly, Samsung is recently speculated to test the first 4K (2150 x 3840) handset. ITProPortal believed that it could be the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy Note 5.

The current Nexus 6 arrived with a Quad HD display (1440 x 2560). If 4K screens are bound to be the norm, it'd be great to see the new Nexus 6 hop with the rest.

5. More Space

Operating with 3 GB of RAM, the current Nexus 6 is offered in 32- and 64-GB storage options. An immediate, huge upgrade in RAM may not be likely, but an additional gigabyte certainly does better. Of course, more storage choices will be loved.

The PCAdvisor expected the new Nexus 6's arrival and sale in October and November, respectively.

The current Nexus 6 starts at $649.99. For more information, head over here.
